The Department of CSE offers B.Tech, M.Tech and Ph. D in CSE under PES University. The faculty have very good profiles with Post Graduation and Doctorates from premier institutes of India and abroad. They have a very good research track with quality publications in international and national journals of good repute.


The curriculum offered by the department is widely appreciated across the academia, with specializations in the areas of Algorithms and Computing Models, Systems and Core Computing and Data Science. Students have opportunity to select from a wide range of electives, which caters to contemporary topics in the field of Computer Science and Engineering. Faculty members with greater accomplishments are given the freedom to tailor their course execution by giving them autonomy. Typically, around 20% of the courses have autonomy.

The Department encourages innovative modes of assessment. The teachers have freedom to tailor their assessment policy. The assessment methodology includes assignments, mini projects, open book exams and practical demonstrations apart from traditional evaluation methods. Some notable courses which followed innovative modes of assessment are Drone computing, Advanced Machine Learning, Software Engineering, etc.

The Department has maintained consistently strong record in quality placements for our students. Typically, 90% of students get successfully placed in many reputed companies.

The Alcoding Club of the department is an innovative programming club consisting of students and faculty members with a passion for competitive programming. The club conducts online coding contests and workshops to inculcate and hone the programming skills of students.


Students have opportunities to choose electives like “Introduction to Business”, which helps them to learn insights of business. Periodically, training programs as well as boot camps are held by the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and E – Cell at PES University. The department invites alumni who have set up their own ventures to share their experiences with the students.

Students are given an early exposure to research under the mentorship of accomplished faculty. Students get opportunities for internship in local companies, reputed institutions in India like IISc and IITs as well as Universities abroad such as University of Dalhousie, University of Ottawa, University of Illinois and UCI. Students of the department had the unique distinction of getting selected to Mitacs program for internships at Canadian Universities.

Industry Collaboration

The department has strong linkages with industry. The type of interactions include visits by industry experts to deliver guest lectures to students, internships at industry, industry sponsored events on campus as well as industry sponsored projects. Department has active MOUs with local industry. Some notable sponsors include EFI, IBM, HPE, AMD and Huawei.

Community Connect

The Department of CSE has a rich tradition of serving the community. The students of the department actively participate in events such as Blood Donation Camp, Peer Teaching to government schools and other Community Development Programmes.

TEDx PESU was hosted by the Department of CSE in the MRD Auditorium on 17th April. We had speakers from all walks of life sharing information and their inspiring stories. From social workers to theoretical physics researchers, from fashion photographers to educationists, TEDx PESU was truly a spectacle of the World. With 6 live speakers, 4 musical and dance performances, 100 attendees for the live show and over 200 registered attendees for the webcasts, TEDx PESU was a resounding success and a great day of learning and inspiration.

The Game Development Club of PES University was started by the department of CSE to give a platform for game development enthusiasts to come together, discuss and showcase their skills in the field. The club hosted workshops on game design and structure, Development tools like Unity and Blender, and other required skills like C#. With 180 attendees for the inaugural session and 86 active and interested members the club is set to make a difference in the gaming sphere. In the month of April, the club also hosted the Good Game Jam (GG Jam), which was a 24 hour game development hackathon. The theme was ‘energy’ and the teams were allowed to use any platform they liked. Judges from the industry, including one who started his own company, now fairly successful gaming studio, judged the submissions.

The Association for Computing Machinery is one of the biggest professional organisations for Computer Science students, professionals and enthusiasts and thus a chapter of the same in PES University would be of great benefit to the students. After all interviews and formalities, ACM PES University student chapter was chartered in March 2018. The students of PES have been extremely enthusiastic and supportive of the chapter and it now sports a total membership of almost 600. ACM PESU has domains for workshops and seminars, research, CR, PR and competitive coding and plans to host several major events in the coming semesters. ACM also conducted a three week long workshop, ACM Summer School, for girl students from across the country. The theme of the Summer School was Cyber Security and speakers from various parts of India delivered lectures and conducted hands on sessions centred around the theme.
